K-pop is an abbreviation for Korean popular music, specifically from South Korea. There are many artists and groups, such as BoA, Rain, Se7en, Shinhwa, 東方神起, Wonder Girls, BIG BANG, SG WannaBe, Super Junior, F.T. Island, 소녀시대 and KARA that have branched out of Korea and have become popular in Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and South East Asia. I think the problem that a lot of people have with K-pop is that it all essentially sounds the same. There's little to no variation in the South Korean music industry, as it all emulates the current trend of electro/urban pop and R&B in the U.S. But at least in America, you have different choices. If you're not a fan of pop/hip-hop/R&B, you can listen to rock, country, jazz, metal, etc. Our industry is vast with many options. You don't get many choices in South Korea, since their industry is so narrow.
